Ballard, King County
Air duct cleaning in Ballard is priced from $525. What raises it: more registers, a second heating system, ducts in a crawl space too low to work in comfortably. You get the exact figure at the house, before the vacuum is hooked up. The job takes in supply and return runs, the trunk lines and the blower compartment.

Ballard was platted in 1888 under the name Gilman Park, and an electric trolley was running down Ballard Avenue by 1890. In ZIP area 98117 more than a third of the housing is older than 1940. Where a house of that age has ducts, they were threaded through a structure framed long before anyone planned for them: long horizontal runs, tight turns, joints that have had decades to open. Nearer the canal the buildings are newer, and there the first thing we look for is construction dust shut into the system the day it was closed up.
Ducts exist where a furnace or heat pump pushes air. The Census Bureau's 2020-2024 survey of ZIP area 98117 has gas as the main heat in 48.5% of occupied homes and fuel oil in 7.9%. Electricity accounts for 41.7% there and for 69.9% in ZIP area 98107, and the survey does not say whether that means a ducted heat pump or baseboards with no ducts at all.
So we ask before we quote. An oil-heated house (the survey estimates roughly 1,190 of them in 98117) has a furnace or a boiler, and only the first comes with ducts, which may be as old as the heating system itself. Replacing that furnace is a separate matter with its own rule: any furnace replacement or alteration in Seattle needs a permit, one a homeowner may pull personally. A duct cleaning is a good moment to photograph the old equipment before that decision is made.
Every air duct cleaning we do in Ballard includes:
Smoke coming back into the room, or a smell that won't go? Book the inspection first.
Book nowDust in ducts comes from the house itself, from remodeling, from pets and from outdoors. Wildfire smoke has reached the region on a scale without precedent since 2015, the regional clean air agency writes, although 2024 went by without an episode. When smoke does arrive, its advice is to shut fresh-air intakes and filter indoor air, with a HEPA unit or, more cheaply, a MERV-13 filter on an ordinary Ballard box fan. A furnace fan that ran through a smoky week has drawn fine particles into the return side, and what settled there stays until someone removes it.
A camera goes into a few runs. If the ducts turn out clean, we say so and leave it there.
We tie a truck-sized vacuum into the trunk line; from then on every branch draws toward it.
Each run is worked with air whips or brushes from its register back to the trunk, the other registers being covered meanwhile.
Return plenum and blower compartment are vacuumed and wiped down.
Openings are closed with sheet-metal patches, registers go back, and the photo pairs are sent to you.

Ballard is a former mill town that joined Seattle in 1907 and runs from the Ship Canal north to NW 85th Street, on Shilshole Bay and Salmon Bay, with houses from before 1950 north and west of the old town and many newer buildings near the canal. We work every part of it — Loyal Heights, Whittier Heights, West Woodland, Adams included.

From $525, with the exact price given at the house. More registers, a second system or awkward crawl-space access raise it.
No ducts, no duct cleaning. In that case the vents worth checking are the dryer's and the bath fans'.
We make no general claim about that. What we can do is show you the inside of your own ducts on camera before you decide.
